In what looks like it may have been a failed attempted assassination attempt, President Trump has just been shot in the ear at a Pennsylvania rally. He has survived, seems ok, and is being checked out at a local medical facility.
News is reporting that the shooter and one attendee are dead at the rally.
I suspect that the following image may become an iconic image of this century.
Obviously it’s very early days, so there will be a lot of facts sorted out over the next few days, but there already seem to be a few things that are strange to me about this event:
A lot of media in the USA seemed initially reluctant to call this even a shooting, and frankly some of the coverage, at least to start was bizarre. I saw several news article - at least initially - describe the even as “mysterious loud noises were heard, Trump is bleeding from the ear”, when it was clearly a shooting
After being shot, Trump insisted on a “fist bump” to the crowd, which was cheered loudly. This to me seemed like a strange thing to do. Almost like a WWF production, rather than how someone would react to just being shot. Although I’m not sure how you could stage being shot in the ear safely. But why would you stick your head up after being shot and insist on fist bumping fans? Either Trump has balls of steel, or he knew he wasn’t going to be shot again.
Several news outlets immediately launched into criticisms of Trump and basically asked the US public not to start a revolution. Again, this seems very weird to me. Clearly this is a seminal event in US history, and may kick of the start of civil war or some kind of serious instability in the USA depending on how the various political parties and Trump reacts over the next few days. But for news stations to immediately criticise the former President rather than express sympathy was strange.
There are reports that people saw the shooter on the roof, and the secret service wasn’t doing anything about him being up there, and acted slowly once the shooter started shooting.
Parallels to Kennedy Assassination
Obviously if this was an assassination attempt, there are parallels to the Kennedy assassination. It used to be that if you said The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had an involvement in Kennedy’s killing, you would be branded as a conspiracy theory nut, however there is an absolute mountain of evidence that points to CIA fingerprints in the matter, and it’s not a conspiracy theory to say so. Robert Kennedy Jr even states outright that the CIA killed Kennedy - If you want to go down that rabbit hole, I’ll let you do your own research.
What IS public knowledge, is that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has a long history of engaging in covert operations to influence political regimes around the world. These activities have included orchestrating coups, supporting insurgencies, and conducting clandestine campaigns to destabilize governments perceived as hostile to U.S. interests. Notable examples include the overthrow of Iran's Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh in 1953, the 1954 coup in Guatemala to oust President Jacobo Árbenz, and support for anti-communist forces during the Cold War, such as in Chile in 1973 and Nicaragua in the 1980s.
These operations often aimed to install or support regimes favourable to U.S. geopolitical objectives, though they have also been criticised for contributing to long-term instability and human rights abuses in the affected countries.
In case you weren’t aware, Kennedy made this statement before he was killed:
Trump has been Anti war
Like many people, I didn’t like Trump when he was elected. However, with the benefit of hind-sight, after his presidency ended, I changed my mind for several reasons, but primarily for the fact that Trump was the least-war mongering US president in modern history
Trump didn’t start any new wars, and killed far fewer people with drones than Obama
We didn’t have the Israel / Palestine and Russia / Ukraine mess on his watch
He was the only US president to reach out and meet a president from North Korea. meeting people and building bridges and trust is how you wind down tensions. All other US presidents just follow the line that “North Korea is the enemy”, and even talking to them is forbidden. Having an isolated and angry North Korea is a risk to the whole world.
Trump didn’t pander to the US military industrial complex unlike all over Democratic and Republican candidates in the USA. Because large corporate lobbying / donations are allowed in the USA, they way things tend to work is that the war companies (Raytheon, Lockheed, Halliburton etc) lobby senators in the USA govt into policies that are pro-war. It’s an awful situation that the US system is structured so that war industries can make money by lobbying US politicians.
Conclusions
I think there are a large number of strange things with the Trump shooting, from his reaction, to the media reaction
This is likely to be a seminal event in world history, and may well kick off a period of instability in the USA, even martial law, or civil unrest.
Regardless from here, I think that this event is going to massively increase Trump’s popularity, I think he will be the next president of the USA, meaning he will be the only US president besides Grover Cleveland to win a non-consecutive second term
I personally believe (Like RFK Junior) that Kennedy was shot because he was about to go head-to-head with the CIA, which has basically become a lawless organisation in the USA, outside presidential control.
Kennedy being shot, and Trump being shot would benefit the US military industrial complex, and both Kennedy and Trump were anti-war presidents.
Who knows what’s going to happen from here, but here’s for sure, we are watching history unfold.
One should ask about the failure of his head of security, the lack of funding of both Trumps and Kennedy's protection plans.
Able to get shots off from a rooftop under 150M from Trump!!!
Not good news. One of my fears is that one day I'll wake up to find David Seymour has been assassinated. Or Nigel Farage here in the UK. Justified concern? I certainly hope neither event will eventuate, but what I can say is that 10 years ago I didn't even consider that such things might be possible either in NZ or the UK. Now I do. (For those not UK based - two MPs have been killed by extremists in their electorate offices in the UK in recent years.)
